The only good Indian is a sober Indian: Conservatives

This week’s prize for stupidest statement on the campaign trail goes to Darlene Lannigan, assistant to Conservative MP Lawrence Cannon, the Minister of Transport and top Conservative operative in Quebec, who was caught on camera implying that a group of Algonquins were problematic alcoholics.

On a related note, since the Conservatives still seem mostly likely to win on October 14th, I hope that Aboriginal People’s Television doesn’t rely on any federal funding.

Edit: I feel compelled to add that this comment pales in comparison to last week’s statement by Liberal candidate Simon Bédard (to be fair, since booted from the party) that the best way to resolve the Oka crisis would have been to kill 125 Mohawks.
