We’ll miss you, Phyllis

A few hours ago the cat Shannon and I have been petsitting for a friend was hit by a car on our street. She died quickly. A neighbour was watching, and told me that the car did try to stop, but Phyllis doubtless leapt out into the street at the last moment as cats are wont to do. We’ll miss her a lot, and so will all our neighbours, especially the children next door who had made friends with her.

I feel like blaming this on my landlord, who hated Phyllis and has been trying to evict Shannon and me because of her. But really, it’s just one of those things. Cats in cities are prone to being stuck indoors, or being run over. I don’t think I’ll be able to bring myself to get another cat unless I move to a farm or something.

Phyllis sure was a sweetie, though…
