Africa, here we come
So we’ve paid for the tickets, had all our shots, and today we sent off the last of the visa application papers — Shannon and I are travelling to south east Africa to visit friends doing NGO work in Ugunja, in south western Kenya. Julian and Sarah have been there since October, and as their contract is about to finish we’ve decided to join them as they spend some time travelling before returning home. We leave on March 12th for four weeks, flying in to Kenya, then travelling by land to Tanzania, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Botswana, and South Africa. Julian, who grew up in Africa with his NGO parents, has family friends in most of those countries, and we look forward to visiting them.
Needless to say, I can hardly wait to go. Like many people in our culture I really don’t know much at all about Africa, but I’m excited to learn, and see it with my own eyes. We plan to read travel guides and wikipedia articles before we go, which at least will be a start.
